Hello fellow alumni! My name is Melissa Brown and I graduated from St. Germaine with the Class of 1998.
After graduating from Mother McAuley in 2002, I went on study nursing at the University of Illinois in Champaign, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2007. I began my career working at Christ Hospital in the Adult Surgical Heart Unit, where I cared for patients following open heart surgeries, mechanical heart pumps, and heart transplants.
In 2012, I decided to further my education and left Christ Hospital to attend North Shore University School of Nurse Anesthesia, graduating with a Master of Science in Nursing degree in 2014. I have been practicing as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) for the last four years.
St. Germaine holds a special place in my heart, not only for the great educational foundation it provided me and the many fond memories, but also as the place where my husband and I were married in 2009. We welcomed our first child, Margot Antonia Brown, on October 24, 2017, and enjoy her so much that we decided we needed another. Our second child is due to arrive this November! Although we no longer live in the parish (having just bought a house in Frankfort from a fellow St. Germaine alumnus), Margot was baptized there and her future brother will be as well.
