Brian Brejcha – Class of 2001

My name is Brian Brejcha and I graduated St. Germaine Elementary School in 2001. I have many great memories from the time I attended St. Germaine, many of which helped lay the foundation for where I am today. St. Germaine was not just a school or a church, but a Parish and community serving Oak Lawn and surrounding areas. I have always been fascinated with computers and St. Germaine helped keep me interested and engaged with technology. St. Germaine built a computer lab early in the early 90’s where I learned word processing as well as the fundamentals of each system. This St. Germaine education helped me acquire the knowledge to eventually start my own computer business Dillon’s DiagnostiX in Buda, Texas. At St. Germaine I played two sports, soccer and basketball. Go Trojans blue and gold! I throughly enjoyed playing both of these sports.

I attended Brother Rice High School the home of the Crusaders. When I turned 16, I started my first job assisting at my fathers law firm downtown in Chicago. I worked at Palermo’s 95th Italian cuisine and made pizzas for several years. I developed long time friendships from this job. I worked at Jewel-Osco for several years at both Oak Lawn locations on 103rd as well as 95th street.

I attended Moraine Valley Community College still trying to figure out exactly what career I wanted to pursue. I took an introduction to the criminal justice system and also started working at the Village of Worth Police Department at this time as a Community Service Officer. I worked in a civilian capacity learning about police work. Conversations with friends and family involved in the law enforcement community as well as taking classes at Moraine Valley and working at the station, I knew this was the career I wanted to pursue.

I transferred to Loyola University Chicago with a scholarship. I ended up rooming with my best friend from St. Germaine for some time while I was there. The first course I attended was Criminal Justice 305 – an introduction to Municipal Policing Operations with Dr. Robert Lombardo. After taking this course I was hooked. No career could have such a varying level of day to day activities and the ability to give back to the community in my eyes. I attended many police recruitment events during this time. Due to the downfall in the economy and the market being saturated with eligible applicants, I was unable to move forward in pursuing a law enforcement career in Illinois.

I started looking outside of Illinois for my career. In 2012 I was hired by the Austin Police Department in Texas and started my law enforcement career. Since November of 2012 I have been been working in Southeast Austin on nightshift patrol. My fiance moved to Texas with me in 2012 and in 2014 we married. We built a house in Buda Texas which is just South of Austin. Fast forward two years and we had our first child, Hadley Brejcha in 2014. I am grateful to be where I am currently in life and know that every accomplishment started with a good foundation from St. Germaine elementary, the parish and Oak Lawn.
