St. Germaine School Opens
St. Germaine School opened its doors in September 1964 under the direction of the Sisters of the Presentation of the BVM. Over time additions to the original building provided space for the many activities we offer today, such as the gym, computer lab, library, and SkyRoom.
Blue Ribbon Award
In November, 2007 St. Germaine was recognized by the US Department of Education as one of the top 10% of schools in the nation. The “Blue Ribbon School Award” acknowledges our strong academic program.
St. Germaine Statue
Our parish patroness, St. Germaine of Pibrac, France, was born in 1579. Her family life was an unhappy one and she suffered from serious health issues, but she never missed mass and loved the Lord. She died in 1601 at the age of 22. Documents attest to more than 400 miracles or extraordinary graces received through the intervention of St. Germaine.
St. Germaine Pre-School
St. Germaine offers several options for pre-school age students (3 and 4 year olds): Full Day: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 2:30 pm Half day: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 11:30 am Part Time, morning only: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 8:00 am to 11:30
One of our major goals as a school is to help students to develop a sense of perseverance and pride in their work. Teachers use strategies to help students build a positive “growth mindset” in all of their classroom activities. Our motto for this school year will remind everyone of the importance of persevering even when the task is difficult. We’re looking to Pixar’s Dory as a model: “Just Keep Swimming.”
St. Germaine has a 30 station computer lab. Students follow a curriculum that includes applications such as WORD, EXCEL, and PowerPoint. The curriculum also explores uses of other technology resources (websites, research, content extension) with safety and ethical issues.
We provide opportunities for our students to participate in many forms of liturgy and prayer in addition to the “content” taught in religion classes each day. Students participate in a prayer service on Friday designed to help them understand the scripture readings for the upcoming Sunday liturgy. They attend the parish 8:30 a.m. Mass on a rotating basis. All-school Masses and prayer services are a great way to build our school community on the firm footing of our faith.
Students receive the sacrament of Reconciliation in second grade.
First Communion is the highlight of the second grader’s year.
Students in seventh grade begin their preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation. They celebrate the sacrament during their eighth grade year.
Physical Education/Extra Curricular Athletics
Students participate in physical education classes twice each week. The St. Germaine Athletic Association sponsors extracurricular athletic programs for students at all grade levels. For further details see the Programs / Athletics section on this site.
